Sara Herchenroether wrote her first novel in the sixth grade, published in serial form, when her Language Arts teacher let her read a chapter a week every Friday. After photocopying her wide-ruled handwritten pages and mailing them to publishers, it didn’t sell. She went on to graduate sixth grade (and middle school, and high school), and study English at Northwestern University. Sara Herchenroether taught American Literature and AP English at Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem, New York for seven years and another year in New Haven. She holds a Masters’ Degree in Teaching.

Sara Herchenroether currently lives outside Columbus, Ohio with her husband, four children, and two cats. Her forthcoming novel, THE MURDER OF HARRY HOUDINI, reimagines the mysterious circumstances around his death and will be published by Little A in January, 2027. Her debut, THE NIGHT FLOWERS, was released by Tin House Books in May 2023 and was selected as an Indie Next Pick and a Strand Mystery Book-of-the-Month. She is represented by Rachel Ekstrom Courage.
